Make English the Official Language of the United States

Make English the Official Language of the United States

English should be the official language of the United States. Individual States and Congress should enact laws that reflect that principle with exceptions for State Department, U.S. Immigration office functions and international ports/airports. Congress must mandate that all language in the public domain must be English and other language forms in the public domain should cease under penalty of the law. This does not restrict the rights of States to print materials in other languages as they deem necessary. While it may appear to be a civic gesture of good will, giving foreign languages equal status with English results in eroding the unique culture of our country. The United States was, is and must always remain an English speaking country.
